A Taste Of Poland
Written by Polish shops Malgosia's & European Foods

2012 is our sixth year in which we are proud to supply the Polish community here in the North East with the fine taste of home. Every day brings new experiences and challenges, but this family business is growing in strength and has supplied Poles with the best Eastern European delicacies since opening.

Fingers crossed that the number of food lovers who appreciate traditional Polish cuisine and specialities will grow.

Everything started when Polish-English couple, David and Malgosia, went for a walk near Consett. They realized that that there are a lot of Polish speaking people in the area due to the big food factory located there. They decided to open a small shop to test the water. At the beginning Malgosia was running the shop and David was looking after the supplies and the logistics of the business. It worked so well that they decided to expand the business and open new shops firstly in Newcastle, and then in Darlington and Gateshead. They also started to increase the range of European foods on their shelves, by including produce from Lithuania, Russia, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

They take an active role in the Polish community in the North East and support local initiatives. In the past year, David and Malgosia have been involved in sponsoring the following events:
  • World Head Quarter’s concert by Polish hip-hop musician Peja and Slums Attack
  • Traditional celebrations of St Andrew’s Day in Sunderland organised by the International Community Organisation of Sunderland
  • Made in Poland Festival’s picnic for Polish families organised by Polish Saturday School
  • Art competition for Polish children organised by the Polnews website, Aga's Little Stars and Wonderland's Childrens Place.

As well as monthly special offers of discounted prices on selected products, the shop occasionally features ‘special guests’ like Santa Claus, who put some time aside during his busy schedule last Christmas to bring gifts to customers and their children.

David and Malgosia are passionate about providing the best products to people in the North East. Why? As they say in their own words, ‘because we care about happy customers’.

2012 is their sixth proud year in business. Thanks to you!
